Haaland and Davids embrace after swearing-in as first Native American women ever elected to U.S. Congress

Thursday, January 03, 2019, Deb Haaland and Sharice Davids became the first two Native American women ever elected to the United States Congress.
A landmark moment for these two amazing women, and America to be sure, but for me personally, this moment is likewise among the most significant of my lifetime, and the most hopeful opportunity for the advancement of American ideals that I’ve seen yet.

For Americas’ indigenous population, this should be the beginning of a long overdue reckoning.
For America, an opportunity to overcome its hindered ability to achieve the greatness to which it strives.
