While a firm believer in the separation of church and state, I also recognize certain unavoidable intersections between the two.
Namely, the role ethics and morality play in public voter representation.
So while I will not discount a candidate for any particular religious belief, there is a baseline of behavioral expectation.
That is to say that in, or out of the context of religion, there is no example of ideal character superior to that of the teachings of Jesus in the Christian Bible, and the development of such moral and ethical fortitude should be a common goal for which the whole of human-kind should collectively strive.
